Description
Melanotan 2 (MT-2) is a synthetic cyclic heptapeptide analog of alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone (α-MSH). It acts as a potent agonist of melanocortin receptors (MC1R, MC3R, MC4R, MC5R) and induces pigmentation through melanogenesis, providing a tanning effect without sun exposure. Additionally, MT-2 is studied for its effects on sexual arousal, appetite suppression, and metabolic modulation in various research models.

Mechanism of Action
Melanotan 2 exerts its effects by activating melanocortin receptors, stimulating eumelanin production in melanocytes, and modulating central nervous system pathways involved in sexual behavior and appetite. Its cyclic structure enhances stability and bioavailability compared to endogenous α-MSH.
Safety and Handling
Store lyophilized Melanotan 2 acetate at 2–8°C. Prepare solutions immediately prior to use under sterile conditions. Preclinical data indicate a favorable safety profile; however, strict adherence to research use guidelines is critical.
